Selected after mutagenesis with nitrosoguanidine and replication in the presence of bromodeoxyuridine. The non-permissive incubation temperature is 39.5oC. This mutant was assigned to Dales EM categories A and K indicating absence of mature virus structures, and presence of granular foci with immature particles containing nuceoids but no internal dense material. The mutation was assigned by complementation analysis (Lackner, et al, 2003) to vaccinia map location U17.
